What a TREEmendous week we are having!!

What a treemendous week we've had at PCJS. Sadly on Monday after a period of high winds a large branch off one of our willow trees fell destroying our A frame. Even though no children were involved - this was a serious incident that was reported as a near miss to the proper authorities at NYCC. After that the school was visited by NYCC tree specialists and a decision was made that for health and safety reasons the three, seventy year old willows needed removing as they were deemed unsafe.

Children have since been fascinated by the team of lumberjacks who have been on site removing each tree. Children have spent their playtime's transfixed  as section by section the trees are felled. Class teachers have used the activity around school as a stimulus for writing and discussion.

The school is currently involved with insurers to make a claim for the A Frame and plans are afoot to replace the A Frame and use the remaining stumps as a focus for some amazing artwork (More news to follow)
