Welcome to Pickering Community Junior School

Statement of the Aims and Values of the School

We aim to:

  • Provide a broad, balanced, differentiated and innovative curriculum which includes sport, art, music and a wide variety of experiences. We believe that children learn best when they enjoy school and value all their success in any area of school life.
  • Encourage, challenge and support every child to do their best across the curriculum thereby achieving the highest standards of which each is capable within a safe and secure environment.
  • Promote in children a personal set of acceptable moral values, beliefs and attitudes which will lead them to be kind and considerate respecting the views, feelings and property of others.
  • Engage children in their learning, developing qualities of self motivation, self discipline and independence.
  • Maintain and improve our school environment so it is welcoming, stimulating, well-ordered, tidy, clean and safe.
  • Be a rewarding, satisfying place of work where staff morale is high.
  • Provide appropriate professional development and ongoing professional discussion underpinned by a strong sense of teamwork.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers providing information about their children’s progress and school life in an honest, frank yet sensitive manner, thereby fostering positive relationships built upon mutual respect and trust.

These aims deliberately contain no prescription to any specific course of action. They are supported by a range of policy statements and schemes of work which present, in some detail, how the school sets about the realisation of the ambitions stated here.

The aims of the school are constantly borne in mind when planning and carrying out our work with children. They flavour every aspect of school life for every member of the school community.

All appointments to the school staff are subject to CRB clearance including enhanced clearance, in the interests of safer recruitment practices aimed at child protection.
