Music

Music is a key part of the National Curriculum and we believe in the importance of providing and fun and engaging curriculum that builds on prior knowledge and is focused on the inter-related dimensions of music: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and notation. in line with the 'The power of music to change lives: a national plan for music education' we ensure that children receive an average of one hour music teaching a week. This time is made up of curriculum music lessons, assemblies (including a weekly singing assembly) and rehearsals for school performances. Class teachers work alongside and support music professionals (North Yorkshire Music Service and Sing Education) to ensure that the children develop the key skills of: singing, listening and appraising, composing and improvising, and performing.
