Year 6 - Mrs Mintoft

We had our first lesson with Micro:bits today.  We created a simple algorithm to make name badges.  We used our previous knowledge of coding and building commands in order to do this.

As the summer term gets underway we are busy doing the last bits of learning before our SATS tests in May.  We are going to be so busy afterwards as the 3 day trip to London rapidly approaches and auditions for the end of year Y6 play get underway soon.  A theatrical bunch as we are, we are going to be just brilliant!

Transition to our secondary schools is also planned; we have had some really great sessions already with Lady Lumley's.  They have visited us a few times through the year so far, teaching us some exciting things like Japanese!

Bikeability - learning to stay safe whilst out on the roads on our bikes.

We took part in the Bikeability programme run by NYCC.  Some of us achieved level 1 and lots of us achieved our level 2 badges which means we can now drive on the main roads safely.  The programme, which lasted two days, taught us lots about how the roads work and how we can ride safely around on the busy roads of Pickering.

We also learned how to maintain our bikes and helped to fix a few punctures that we picked up out on our training.  Thanks to the team at NYCC - Ashley and his helpers, for making our learning fun.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

We incorporated our art lessons into making beautiful watercolour cards. We worked on tones and shades and are really thrilled with the results.

We have been playing our favourite tunes on the glockenspiels today as we begin to learn notation and read music.
